What can you do with WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is now the new norm for messaging and calling, but these aren’t its only features. In fact it now has so many features and makes communicating and staying connected with people so easy that virtually anyone who has a phone has WhatsApp.

So I decided to write this blog to look into some of its features.

Calls

So let’s start with the most basic function…making phone calls. The app allows you to make calls to anywhere in the world completely free of charge. Not only this, but it also allows video calls and it gets even better…you can now make group video calls!

Messages

WhatsApp seems to have replaced the usual text messaging. But why?

Well, with a standard text messaging platform you can send a text or, if you want to pay a little more, you can send a photo! However, with WhatsApp you can not only send written messages free of charge, but you can also send attachments and voice messages. In fact, this is one of the reasons WhatsApp has moved into the business world. I for one, as a virtual assistant, receive many of my clients’ work to be typed or uploaded to their expenses system via WhatsApp.

Privacy

WhatsApp have even thought about keeping your messages private – The app uses an end-to-end encryption!

Tracking

Years ago before the days of WhatsApp you’d send a message on your phone and not know, until you receive a reply, if the message had been read.

With WhatsApp this isn’t an issue. The handy ticks show us if the message has been received and when it’s been opened – I’m sure those handy blue ticks give us all peace of mind at times. Whilst we are looking at ‘tracking’ features, we can also see when someone was last online. BUT for those of us who like our privacy the app does allow us to turn off when we’ve opened and message and when we were last online.

Groups

WhatsApp is particularly popular with groups, as it gives us the opportunity to chat as a group either as an ongoing chat or over a video call. Again, it doesn’t matter where in the world you are! Although sometimes we can easily become part of too many groups and our phone will beep away with conversations we aren’t even part of. Luckily WhatsApp gives you the opportunity to mute chats but even better – archive them!

The group chats are also great for setting up meetings using its ‘create a poll’ feature – this is way, as a virtual assistant, I am a big fan of WhatsApp.

I think we can all agree that WhatsApp gives us a much more personal approach to staying connected than a standard text or phone call.

In this blog, I’ve run through just a few of the features but if you want to know more then I’d recommend visiting the WhatsApp website at www.whatsapp.com.
